We had a nice time in Seattle in January, 2005.
It started off well with a cool train ride
up from L.A. that included 100 or so miles along
the Pacific and about the same through
snowy mountains in northern California. Then mountains
and valleys in Oregon. The Coast
Starlight is probably Amtrak's most scenic train.
The Westin was very nice. We had a great view of
Seattle out our suite's big windows, including
Lake Union straight ahead and the Space Needle off to
the right.
We visited the Frye Art Museum and had a good time there,
including a very nice lunch. It's
in a nice neighborhood and we recommend a stop there.
The Seattle Aquarium is very well done. Not in the
league with the big ones in Chicago and
San Francisco, but an entertaining time.
While Sara was in meetings, I went on a nice walking tour
with a local guide named Price Cochran.
Among the sites was a trip to the top of the Smith Building
(as in Smith-Corona). Once the tallest
building west of the Mississippi. A spectactual
deck view of Seattle.
