Knysna Mice
Feathers Gallery of Africa

The lovely mice pictured below are from Feathers Gallery of Knysna (South Africa). Originally called "Country Collection of Knysna," the name was changed in 2000 to "Feathers Wildlife" of Knysna because of a copyright problem. The designer is John Blignout. Feathers Gallery has been in business since 1986-87 and is a member of the Endangered Wildlife Trust; a percentage of all proceeds go the World Wildlife Fund - South Africa.

The pieces are limited to a production of 5,000 each. They vary in height from approximately 3.5" to 5". The plinth, in oak or dark wood finish, is about 4.5" in diameter. The pieces are also fairly heavy.
Below are the 13 pieces in the current collection plus 1 retired piece that is no longer available. The name of each piece and its order number will appear on the first line. On the second line will appear the original Country Collection designation.

If you need to brush up on your foreign language lessons, Natalie at Kottlers provided this information. "Miele" is the Afrikaan's name for corn. A "naartjie" is a cross between an orange and a mineola--similar to a tangerine. A "loquat" is also called a Japanese Medlar and has a sweet-sour taste with an apricot consistency.

The Boudashery, Ltd,  Ashland, Oregon, is the USA distributor for Feathers Gallery. You can contact them at sharonhull@aol.com or 1-888-577-4235 The Knysna mice are also pictured on the website.

I purchased my mice from Kottlers of Cape Town (South Africa)
and had excellent service. Their email address is
kottler@iafrica.com.
Kottlers also have a website at
http://www.kottlersafrica.com, but the mice are not as yet pictured.

As I write this in September, 2002, the price for each piece was under $30. The cost will vary with the international monetary exchange rate; the unit of currency for South Africa is the rand. Kottlers will be able to give you a price when you contact them. Shipping was faster than I had expected. My order took 2 weeks; another collector reported 1 week. Because of costs, I would suggest you order as many as you can at one time. The packing was well done.
