The Marine Fish & Mini-Reef Interactive Support Program

by Micro-Marine Software, Inc.

The Marine Fish & Mini-Reef Interactive Support Program™ is a detailed program for marine fish and mini-reef aquariums. I have used the program and I can truthfully say it delivers. What follows is my critique of it's features.

Marine Calculator
This feature has several calculators built into it. Along with a standard calculator, there are four other calculators specifically for aquarists and their hobby. The temperature & liquid conversion calculator is a feature I love because so many hobby reference sources use metric measurements vice standard and, unless you have a complete conversion chart handy, one can miscalculate easily. With this feature all you have to do is select what you are converting (Fº to Cº, Cº to Fº, drops to teaspoons, drops to tablespoons, gallons to liters, and liters to gallons), type in the number, hit calculate, and viola! I will be using this feature alot!
Micro-Marine Software
The safest amount of fish feature asks for the length and width of your aquarium and determines the recommended safest amount of fish in inches based on a conservative formula. A very good feature for beginners.
The tank volume calculator is excellent for figuring out how many gallons (or liters) your aquarium is, regardless it's shape.
And if you have ever wondered how many ppm's are in German degrees of hardness or milliequivalents, the unit measurement conversion feature will help with that.

Data Search
This feature lets you input any keyword about any topic and it will bring up any and all articles that contain that word or words. This is a handy feature because the database is very extensive and it would take awhile to search by yourself.

Fish Disease Analyzer
While observing the syptoms of your ill fish and answering a series of yes or no questions, this feature narrows the scope down to what possibly ails your fish, complete with how to treat them. I have not tested this feature as I only have fresh water fish for now, but, with what I know about fish maladies, this appears to be an accurate AND useful feature.

Daily Journal & Log
I never would have expected a feature like this one. This feature is for your own personal information on your tank(s) and lets you log such things as when you set it up, what size, what products you are using (filters, heaters, etc.) and when they are scheduled to be serviced, when and what the water conditions are (pH, ammonia, etc.), and a log with detailed information of the inhabitants. For the casual hobbyist this feature might not appeal, but for us serious hobbyists this feature can be a valuable aid. The Reminder scheduler will keep you abreast to what needs servicing and when.

Library
With well over 350 pictures and information of fish and invertebrates, along with many full motion videos of fish and invertebrates, this is the most impressive part of this program. The pictures are beautiful and the information is enough to get started on. The video section is full colored and impressive. You have to check out the video for the Fu Manchu Lionfish! I wish there were sound for the videos, but it's only a minor flaw.

Overall
For those interested in Marine & Mini-Reef aquariums, I recommend this program. It's easy to use and very extensive in the information contained. The pictures are good and the videos are impressive. The information is detailed and easy to understand. The other features round out this program and makes an invaluable aid for amateurs and pros alike. I will be using the journal and log section for my fresh water tanks!
