Blue Acara

Aeauidens pulcher (latifrons)
Blue Acara
Habitat:
Panama, Colombia, Venezuela, Trinidad
Length:
150 mm (6 in.)
Diet:
Prepared foods
Sex difference:
Mature males have more pointed anal and dorsal fins
Compatibility:
Semi-aggressive; Not compatable with community fish; Can be kept with other cichlids
Breeding:
Pairs should be supplied with a large aquarium, the long type of 20-gallons capacity if possible. The bottom may be sanded or clear; this does not matter for the pair will dig into the sand until it reaches the bottom anyway. If conditions are right it will breed every 2 weeks like clockwork. Parents may be left with the fry, but this seems to keep them from breeding regularly.
Tank conditions:
pH 7.0; Hardness 10; Temp 76ºF; Size 40 gal
Comments
Why this fish is called the blue acara is no mystery; its colour is a steel-blue gray, which is typically cichlid. Many cichlids show this coloration around the gill cover but only this one shows so much of this attractive pattern.
