Steps to Join the Ring

April 2008 update! Ringsurf, our ring host, has dramatically changed its system. I think all you need to do now is e-mail me with your site's address (URL), and I then add you to the ring after looking at your site. Possibly no "ring code" (below) needs to be added to your site. I need someone to give this a test!

The remainder of this page remains, for now, at least for historical purposes ... we'll see how it goes.

Step 1: Print out this page for your reference.

Step 2: Download the following three images to your computer. Right-click on each with your mouse, select 'Save Image As', and store each to your Web page directory on your hard drive. Be sure to maintain the original files' names which are cudaback.gif, cudamid.gif, and cudanext.gif. If you get 'SPACE_1.GIF', try again -- SPACE_1.GIF is just a blank picture used for spacing below.

Step 3: Upload to your Web site's server, in the same directory as your Cuda pages, the three graphics from Step 2.

Step 4: Using your mouse, highlight the HTML ring code in the following text box. Then right-click with your mouse and select 'copy'.

<!-- End Barracuda WebRing Code --><p>

Step 5: Open your main Barracuda page's HTML file using MS Notepad or your page-making software, for example. Find a good, visible spot on your page for the ring's logo and links. Click on that location with your mouse, then right-click and choose 'paste' to insert the ring's HTML. Save your file.

Step 6: In the pasted ring's code, replace '***YOUR-PATH***' (including the asterisks) with the path (URL) to your Web site, e.g., 'www.HOST.com/~bob'. Be sure to do this in THREE (3) PLACES. You'll change the '***YOUR-ID-NUMBER***' entries later. Save your file again.

Step 7: Upload your modified page to your server. View it, make sure the ring's logo and links are appearing, and are properly located and aligned; if not, adjust the surrounding material (don't change the ring's HTML code).

Step 8: Go to RingSurf, via this link, and fill out and submit your application for ring membership.

Step 9: Wait for the Ring Master to visit your site. If all is OK, the Ring Master will send you a Site ID number and add you to the ring. Edit your main page to replace '***YOUR-ID-NUMBER***', in SEVEN (7) PLACES, with your ID number. Save your file, and upload it to your server.

Step 10: Check the functionality of your ring code. All links should work properly, including the hidden links for the three graphics in the logo. If any don't work, check your HTML. If still not working, e-mail the Ring Master.

Step 11: When all's fine, write down in a safe place the 'Ring ID = cuda', your Site ID number, and your RingSurf password. You're done! Congrats on being the latest member of best, oldest, and largest Barracuda Web ring on the Internet! You can update your information, such as your e-mail address when it changes, by logging on to RingSurf.
