Refuting Theocracy . . .
But first, a word from our sponsors :
It does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.
-- Thomas Jefferson, 1782

The Bible is not my Book and Christianity is not my religion. I could never give assent to the long complicated statements of Christian dogma.
-- Abraham Lincoln

"I do not believe in the creed professed by the Jewish church, by the Roman church, by the Greek church, by the Turkish church, by the Protestant church, nor by any church that I know of...Each of those churches accuse the other of unbelief; and for my own part, I disbelieve them all."
Thomas Paine, The Age of Reason pp. 8-9

Tolerance implies no lack of commitment to one's own beliefs. Rather it condemns the oppression or persecution of others.
--John F. Kennedy, October 10, 1960
Now, on to the sites -
The Faith of Our Founding Fathers - Serious, and well-documented.
FundieVision- Call me Mr. Ecumenical (go ahead, Turtle does :-) ), but I love this title! Frankly, I think people this full of themselves need to be poked in their hubris every once in awhile.
The Institute for First Amendment Studies - another serious site, and one with a good collection of info and resources.
The Founding Fathers Were Not Christians - strong premise, and a good follow-through. A great source for sticking it right back in the face of your favorite Christian nation-alist.
Christian Revisionism - From the American Atheists' site, a counter to fundamentalist fake quotes and misquotes often used to support the spurious "America is a Christian nation" arguments they favor. Some of the content relates to a specific case in Charotte, N.C., but most of the material is of broad applicability.
The
Battle Is Joined - Another article from A.A. This is a
lengthy one, complete with a bookmarked index frontispiece, to which this
link takes you.
